Why We're Called "Rough Riders"
The Legacy of Theodore Roosevelt
The name Rough Riders Wrestling Academy is inspired by Theodore "Teddy" Roosevelt, a U.S. President, decorated war hero, and lifelong athlete who embodied the spirit of toughness, grit, and leadership that we strive to instill in every wrestler who walks through our doors.
The Original Rough Riders
Before his presidency, Roosevelt led the 1st U.S. Volunteer Cavalry known as the Rough Riders during the Spanish-American War. This legendary group, made up of cowboys, athletes, and working-class patriots, became a symbol of American courage and resilience.
Roosevelt's leadership in the Battle of San Juan Hill made him a national hero and cemented the Rough Riders as a symbol of fearless determination.
"The Strenuous Life"
Combat Sports
Roosevelt was a student and practitioner of wrestling, boxing, and Judo, believing in the importance of physical competition.
Character Building
Through hard work, discipline, and struggle, people could become their best selves and build unshakeable character.
Leadership
Roosevelt's philosophy emphasized leadership through example, courage in the face of adversity, and service to others.
